Well, I don't think land ownership could extend from Montana INTO Saskatchewan, but I do think that perhaps Walter owned land in Saskatchewan that abutted his land owned in Montana? Have you tried the Bureau of Land Management/Government Land Office for the legal description of Walter's land? Go to the following link and type in "Montana" and then "Willison." Then you can click on the file tabs for further description of the land:

I checked the 1920 Census too, and I see that Walter D. Willison's family was duplicated in both the Scobey and Whitetail Townships within 3 days of one another. Strange.

Was the Big Beaver Historical Society in Montana? I haven't heard of this particular organization.
