Nancy-- I do quite a bit of Norwegian research and so did some work in the Norwegian Digital Archives. First of all, I found Hans in 1920 Flathead census Enumeration District 42 Sheet 9A with his wife Margaret age 27 and son Arnold age 2. Margaret was born in Norway, Arnold born in Montana. Hans immigrated in 1904 and was naturalized in 1913. Hans immigrated Oslo to Montana on the liner Angela with his uncle Martin Prestbyn on 22 Jul 1904. It lists Hans as Hans Antonsen Prestbyn and his residence at the time was Andebu. His destination was Montana, age 17, unmarried, and a laborer. Martin was 44, residing in America, unmarried, and a farmer. His destination was Montana. http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=arkivverket/EMIOSLO&variabel=0&postnr=161409&fulle=true&spraak=e Most Norwegians used the patronymic naming system. So, Hans' father was Anton. Anton was Christ Prestbye's brother. Therefore, the link you are looking for is that Hans is the nephew of Christ. I found Hans in the 1900 Norwegian census: Kommune: Andebu Kommunenummer: 0719 Name of place/farm: Prestbyen Anton Abrahamsen, head of household, married, farm user and freeholder, born 1856 in Andebu JL Thora Olsdatter, wife, married, born 1860 Sandeherred Anna Antonsdatter, daughter, unmarried, housemaid and telephone something, born 1883 Andebu JL Hans Antonsen, son, unmarried, born 1886 Andebu JL Edel Anstonsdatter, daughter, unmarried, born 1888 Andebu JL Marie Antonsdatter, daughter, unmarried, born 1890 Andebu JL Bjarne Antonsen, son, unmarried, born 1892 Andebu JL Sigrid Antonsdatter, daughter, unmarried, born 1894 Andebu JL http://draug.rhd.isv.uit.no/ftsoek/ftsoek.asp?kommando=bosted&ftaar=1900&spraak=norsk_bokmål&kommnr=0719&kretsnr=009&bostnr=0048&leilnr=00 Andebu Kommune (kommune = community) is found in Vestfold fylke (fylke = county). For more assistance regarding your Norwegian heritage, be certain to check out Norway Genweb at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wgnorway/ I can tell you that upon immigration, the Prestbyes took their new surname from their home farm Prestbyen. Many Norwegians did this. Hope this information is helpful for you. Gayle Notify Administrator about this message?
