Hi Chancey,
I have not called anyone savages. The term savages appears in the article I quoted from the Montana Post in 1865. That's 89 years before I was born. This is a genealogy forum and those participating in it are interested in the history and lives of their ancestors, not in denigrataing any group of people. What happened to the Indian peoples was tragic, but manifest destiny. The same thing happened to the celts (my tribe), the Picts (also my tribe), the Britons (my tribe too), the Anglo Saxons (my tribe after they beat up my earlier tribes who were in turn beat up by the Norman tribe). That's history.
As for the reasons my great grandfather was killed by Indians - I am well aware of the motivations of the Native peoples and you will not find blame in my postings, only inquiry.
I do not, however, believe his death was a set-up to blame Indians.
