My Conners came from Logan County Ohio in 1863 to Henry County. James is on the 1850 & 1860 Logan County census. There is a probable James in Ohio as early as 1830. I also have written family info about possibly being in Wayne & Randolph County, Indiana. My g-grandmother Melvina Conner was 8 months olds when they came to Iowa. James N. Conner b 1800/05 in ?? had actually came as early as 1856 with brother in law Charles Davis. I didn't know ths until i found papers for the purchase of burial plots. We had always heard the story of the covered wagon trip in 1863/64. For whatever reason, he was still listed on the 1860 Logan County census. His marriage to Jane Mason was his 2nd or 3rd and her 2nd. His first wife was named Phoebe and he had a group of kids with her. Family lore is that yours, mine and ours totalled 22. These are some of the names of the children. with Phoebe James John George W. Hesteran Margaret & Elizabeth (twins who died at age 18 in fire) Littleton Alvira or Almira with Jane Louisa Eliza Oscar David Charles Ashbury (Francis??) Mary Melvina Lincoln All of James and Jane's children (short of Eliza & Louisa)came to Iowa. They are found on 1870 census and only Jane and Lincoln are found on 1880 Henry County census. Can't track down a death cert for James. Other than my ggrandmother, I have not been able to track down this family. Charles supposedly dies in Montana. David is in Huron SD and then Sheridan County NE in 1886, when Jane dies. Oscar d around 1928 and lived in red Oak, Iowa with wife Alice. This family is very hard to trace. Family lore (again) is that they are Native American- at least James. Possibly Tuscarora or Delaware, possibly born in NC. They are like ghosts! Francine
