"August Carl Joens, the tenth child of Mr. and Mrs. Jueren Joens, was born on the 17th of March, 1903, at Fulda, Minn., and died at Havre, Montana, January 13, 1925, at the age of 21 years, 9 months and 26 days. He took sick ver suddenly with an attack of appendicitis January 10th. Friends of Mr. Joens took him to a hospital at Havre, 56 miles from Big Sandy, where he was staying at the time he took sick. He was operated on Sunday, January 11. The appendix was ruptured before the operation could be performed. The first report his friends received from the hospital were favorable, but Monday forenoon a sudden change for the worse followed, resulting in his demise at 12:30 P.M.
The deceased was baptized in his infancy in the Lutheran church at Fulda, Minn. In 1914 his folks moved to Crookston, Minn., where he was confirmed by the Rev. H. Hinz on the 16th of April, 1916. In 1919 he came with his parents to Laurens and lived on a farm in Roosevelt township. While living there the head of the family, Juergen Joens, was claimed by death on the 24th of October, 1922. One sister preceded the deceased in 1895. Those surviving the deceased are: his aged mother, five brothers; John, Herman, and Carl of Pocahontas, William of Fisher, Minn., and Henry near Rolfe.
