Wow, this is a new thread in my family history! It was difficult to track down, but you have now given me some new things to search on.

My Grandfather was John McLain from county Down, Ireland. I presume that his brother was Hugh McLain (father of Mathew). I knew that Matt and Ella went to live with my great grandfather, Samuel McLean in Iowa, but I did not understand who their parents were.

Now I am thinking Hugh is one of the missing siblings of my grandfather (12 total children in family - I had details on 9 of them).

If anybody has more info on Hugh McLain, please let me know. I have lots of informaiton on his siblings and his parents.
