I found a story & picture of a James "Virg" Hunt, 1886-1963, in the book, "Grit, Guts, and Gusto, the History of Hill County", 1976. This may be the Virgil Hunt you were searching for. Excerpts from the book:

James "Virg" Hunt was born Feb. 17, 1886, Garden City, KS. In 1905 he came to Glasgow, Montana, from Ravenwood, Missouri, and on March 8, 1908, married Miss Hattie Zylo at Glasgow (note: Glasgow is in Valley County MT). Worked for the Great Northern Railway, 1906-1959. Two children: son-Aubrey, daughter, Verna Hunt Broder. After retirement, James V. & wife resided at 426 13th Avenue in Havre MT.
Do you think this might be your Virgil Hunt? Possibly your Virgil is listed in the 1920 Federal census as James Hunt.
The Havre Library has this book & may also be able to find an obituary for you. They have been very helpful to me.
