A biography/family history of Fred C. Andretta is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 834 & 835.

Fred C. Andretta was born, 29 Mar 1886, one of four children of Charles and Mary C. Andretta. Charles was born in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1847, and Mary was born in Paris, France 8 Sep 1856. Charles came to the US at age 13, and drifted from NY to NV, where he finished his educaton and was a miner at Virginia City, NV. Fred married Mary in 1876, Carson city, NV. He was in the dairy industry, then came to Butte, MT, in 1881 and became one of the pioneer dairymen of Butte. In Apr 1891, he settled on a ranch 4-1/1 miles south of Great Falls and continued in the dairy business.

Fred, the youngest child, received his education in Great Falls. At the age of 11, he was partly supporting himself selling newspapers. For a time he was agent for the Anaconda Standard and then was a mail carrier. He was appointed deputy county clerk and recorder and in 1915 became chief deputy county treasurer, then chief county treasurer.

On 1 Sep 1914, Fred married Mary Isabell Snyder, born Kansas City, KS, daughter of Winfield P. and Nancy (Whitehouse) Snyder. Mary I. was a 1911 graduate of Nurse's Training School at St. Patrick's Hospital in Butte.

Andretta Rites to be Held in Falls

Great Falls, Jul 17--Funeral services will be held at St. Ann's cathedral for Fred C. Andretta, 53, former Cascade county treasurer.
Andretta died Sunday of a three year illness. He was born in Butte, Mar. 20, 1886. He served as county treasurer here from 1918-1923. Since 1925 he had been a member of the Lowrey-Andretta insurance and real estate firm.
Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Beth; a son, Fred, Jr., aviation student in Long Beach, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. E.M. Spencer of Great Falls.
