Junior, my 5Ggreatgrands maternally were Rev. Samuel and
Martha Jefferson (Bell) Walker through their dau., Sarah
"Sallie" (Walker) McCarty. My mother was a McCarty in the
line. A tomb stone is located at Mt. Pisgah Church east of
Louin/Montrose, Jasper Co., MS, with this info on the stone.

There is a strong debate over our Sarah Walker McCarty as to whether she was the dau. of Samuel and Martha, but we are maintaining for the time being that our records and the
tombstone are correct.

A large group of researchers of Samuel and Martha are the
ones who disagree. They have done a lot of research and
have even gotten part of a tornup family Bible from a descendant of a son of Samuel's and Martha's: Samuel Walker, Jr. The pages from the Bible, believed to have
been Samuel Walker, Jr.s, has been in the possession of
Mr. Emmitt Walker of Texas, who furnished these pages to
the SC researchers a couple of years or so ago. Apparently
there was a dispute between family members re the Bible and
so someone torn it (presumably, in two) and each side of
the family had a part of the Bible (prob. many years ago).

These pages had some of the family members genealogy on
them and that redirected some of the research being done by
the group. Judy Russell is one of the main researchers
and I think she might live in GA.

At any rate, they sought a male WALKER descendant of
Hezekiah Walker of Wayne Co., MS, in order to do a YDNA
evaluation to determine where he fits into the picture.

An added incentive is that Martha Jefferson Bell descended
by zig and zag from president Thomas Jefferson.

The initial research used some legal documents as a basis
which turned out to be in error (between two separate
documents), and not in keeping with my family page when it
came to Sarah "Sallie" Walker. Several mistakes were made.
So, for the above researchers, the discovery of these pages
possessed by Mr. Emmitt Walker of TX indicated corrections
had to be made from what was gleaned from the legal docs
which prob. were found in Edgefield, SC. These docs re
land and other estate items which were having to be both
protected from fraud and also distributed to heirs. (Some
descendant wanted to take some or all of the estate to
another state causing legal problems.)

I am sure Judy can give you a much better accounting of
their research.

Another descendant who is alive today is Zedekiah Carr's
family member who lives in Jasper Co., MS, and whom I have
tried to find when I visit in Laurel, MS (Jones Co).

Could you tell me if you connect to these Walkers, and how?
Do you know of a male descendant with Walker surname who
might be willing to contribute a YDNA sample? I think that
if that person is not willing or able to spend the money
to have the testing done, the research group will take care
of the expenses. He would need to furnish a swab of his
oral saliva, and Judy or someone will give him all the details.

FYI, Judy Russell's email address:

<jruss95@aol.com>

If you would, please let me know by perhaps a copy of the
emails? Especially, how you fit into the picture, etc.

Look forward to hearing of your connection to these Walkers
and about a male Walker decendant from Hezekiah Walker, if you know of one. Judy would positively want to know to start the ball rolling for a possible YDNA. I think Hezekiah is going to tie up one loose end of their research work.

Thank you very much.

PS: 1) I believe that Emmitt is now on up in years (Here's a 73 yr old saying someone else in "up in years"!). I think that Judy Russell and group will have what Emmitt had so you can probably get it all from her.

2) Ruth (Brady) Edmonson Johnson is a descendant from these
Walkers and she lives in MS. She knows about the tombstone
at Mt. Pisgah Church (Baptist, I think. My 4Ggreat grand
Alford McCarty, who married Sarah "Sallie" Walker built the
church and was pastor there until he died. He and Sarah
and a daughter are buried at Mt. Pisgah cemetery. I have
Ruth's email address and will look it up if you are ever
interested; she is living today.

3) My cousin, Mary Campbell (Smith) married Parham Pleasant
Walker, DDS. He was son of Francis Marion "Frank" & Senea\
(Bridges) Walker. He was born in Florence, MS and died in
Brandon, Hinds Co., MS, in 1907. Senea lived until 1963 and was bd. at Laurel, Jones Co., MS. Parham had a son,
Robert Pleasant Walker, who lived in Brandon and died in Jones Co., MS; bd. Erata Church Cemetery at Erata a few
miles east of Laurel on HWY 11.

I have many Walkers who migrated to Wayne Co., MS, but will
have to look them up in the files (locale not indicated in
a format in computer, i.e., names and locations, and manual means needed here).

4) Another Samuel Walker, who lived at Fishing Creek, Chester Co., SC,and my paternal 4Ggreatgrandfather, fought at the same time in SC in Gen. Sumpter's Brigade. He is
the only other possibility for Sarah Sallie Walker, if our
family research info is incorrect. [My Wm. "Black Billy"
Alexander was Capt. over the main troop under Col. Wade
Hampton's Regiment while Samuel Walker was in Lt-Col. Henry
Hampton's Regiment of Light Dragoons.]

Please let me hear.
