Walter Chalmers, 70, died March 16, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County. He was born Oct. 18, 1938, in Pontotoc to Isaiah Chalmers and Lillie Pearl Sloan Chalmers. He worked for Robbins Oil Company and later for Carr Oil Company. He was a very loving and giving person to anyone who needed help.
Services were at Oak Grove Baptist Church with burial in Cherry Creek M.B. Church Cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors included three children, Gretta Chalmers Carter, Rickey (Ella) Cook and James Roberson, all of New Albany; one sister, Jia (Simon) Taylor of Holly Springs; 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Maurise Chalmers and Elecusia Hunt; and a brother, James Chalmers.
