Services for Edward Hubbard “Ed” were held on Sept. 13, 2008 at Scott’s Chapel with burial in Commerce Boulevard Christian Church cemetery. Mr. Hubbard died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2008. He was born to the late Laban Hubbard Sr and Mattie Lee Triplett-Hubbard on May 11, 1947 in Memphis, Tenn. He was raised by his father, Oscar Reed Sr. of Tunica, and late grandparents John Allen and Susie Triplett. He was a 1965 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis and was employed by Premier Manufacturing for 25 years until his retirement in 2006. Mr. Hubbard accepted Christ at the age of 17 and became a member of the New Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Memphis under the leadership of his uncle, the late Rev. A.B. Triplett, and current pastor and friend, Rev. L.R. Williams. There he served as a deacon and member of the choir. On Sept. 21, 1991, Mr. Hubbard married Evelyn Windum Hubbard in Memphis, Tenn. He later became a member of the Commerce Boulevard Christian Church in Robinsonville, Miss. under the leadership of former pastor Richard D. Gates and current pastor and wife, Evelyn Hubbard. Mr. Hubbard was dedicated, devoted, committed and faithful to the kingdom building ministry. He served as Bible class teacher, Sunday School teacher and a member of the Brotherhood Male Chorus. Mr. Hubbard initiated the community outreach ministry of the monthly visits to the Tunica County Nursing Home and the Tunica County Jail ministry. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Hubbard of Memphis; his father, Oscar Reed Sr. of Tunica; children, Marasalette Hubbard, Belinda Hubbard, Laquetta Windum, all of Memphis and Lashunda Horton of Tunica; three sisters, Hattie Pearl Reed of Wine City, Minn., Bobbie Brannigan (Russell) and Peggy Ford, both of Memphis; seven brothers, Melvin Reed (Margaret) of Chicago, Oscar Reed Jr. (Patricia) of Memphis, Willie Reed of Newport News, Va., Edward Smith (Velvet) of Hampton, Va., J.C. Reed (Catherine), Danny Reed (Giovonna) both of Memphis and Carl Reed (Katrina) of Tunica; six grandchildren, Alex Ross Hatton, Markell Morgan, Briana Alexander, Kenya Jenkins, all of Memphis, Kanaurdia Wright and Kayla Horton of Tunica; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Harris and Georgia Harvey of Saginaw, Mi.; special friends, Marty and Connie Stuart of Nashville, Tenn and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his entire church family to cherish his precious memories.
