Iuka – Cleta Hood Gann, 91, died Oct. 17, 2009, at the Iuka Hospital. She was born Oct. 3, 1918, in Aimwell, La., but had resided in Iuka for the past 58 years. She graduated from Charity Hospital School of Nursing with honors in 1937, and completed her education at the Anesthetist School of Nursing. In 1942 she joined the 64th General Hospital Unit of the United States Army. She served in North Africa and several locations in Italy. She continued to work as a nurse anesthetist at the Whitfield Hospital in Corinth and Iuka Hospital. She was an active member of the Iuka Baptist Church. She was an avid bridge player and a member of the Friday Bridge Club. She was a Best Friend of the Iuka Library. Survivors include her four children, Janet Gann Fulton of Iuka, Debbie Gann Hamrick (Jeff) of Trussville, Ala., Pam Gann Kern (Jack) of Nashville, and Judy Gann Hawkins of Marietta, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Emma Hughens of Shreveport, La., and Lynna Granger of Lake Charles, La.; and a special niece, Elizabeth Vaughn of Shreveport. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Gann, in 1989. Notify Administrator about this message?
