Red Bay, ALA. – Olon W. Thrasher, 86, died June 7, 2009, at the Helen Keller Hospital. He was born May 7, 1923, in Tishomingo County to Cim T. and Leora Willingham Thrasher. He was a barber for 26 years and then was employed with TVA for 24 years. He attended Golden Chapel United Methodist Church and was a member of the Disabled Veteran’s. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was discharged as a staff sergeant. He enjoyed gardening, flowers and visiting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services were at Golden Chapel United Methodist Church with burial in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Deaton Funeral Home of Red Bay was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors included four children, Jerry Thrasher (Lynn) of Decatur, Ala., Rita Brown of Helena, Ala., Donald Thrasher (Janie) of Golden and Kerry Thrasher (Lisa) of Belmont; five grandchildren, Lee Brown (Sarah), Barclay Harden (Brett), Christi Cleveland (Dan), Milli Thrasher and Kerisa Thrasher; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lessie Mae Wren of Russellville, Ala., and Ruth Griffus of Red Bay; and one Brother, Omer Thrasher of Red Bay.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Ruth Barker Thrasher; four brothers; and two sisters.
