John W. Bell, 73, died May 5, 2009, at his home in Ripley. He was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Trustee Board for several years. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959-1963. He was a graduate of Line Street High School, Tuskegee Institute and Olive Harvey Junior College, earning a degree in electrical engineering.
Services were at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Ripley with burial in Ripley Cemetery. Foster and Son Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors included his wife, Mary Griffin Bell of Ripley; one daughter, Angela Boyd (Walter) of Ripley; two sons, Keith A. Bell (Eva) of Chicago and Cedric Griffin (Nicci) of New Albany; one brother, Orlandis Bell (Signey) of Naperville, Ill.; grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Bama Bell; two brothers, Howard Bell Jr. and Joe Bell; and a sister, Constence Johnson.
