Wesley L. Gibens, 74, died April 27, 2009, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born Jan. 11, 1934, to Wesley Franklin Gibens and Flora Stroupe Gibens. He was a member of North Ripley Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. He was employed part-time at Walmart in Ripley. He loved gardening; plants and flowers; talking to and helping people; and all of his grandchildren very much. His life revolved around God, his family, his church, gospel music and his work.
Services were at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Antioch Cemetery.
Survivors included wife, Omega Bryant Gibens of Ripley; one daughter, Janet Turner (Michael) of Ripley; two sons, David Gibens and Allen Gibens (Kristie), both of Ripley; three sisters, Loufain “Lucy” Coburn (Bob) of Venice, Fla., Loyce “Molly” Roberson of Ripley and Patsy French (Ron) of Irondale, Md.; one brother, Royce “Hop” Gibens (Geraldine) of Dumas; five grandchildren. Jennifer Harrison (Kenny), Mandy Null (John), Brandon Gibens, Courtney Gibens and Jesse Gibens, all of Ripley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Danny Gibens.
