J. P. Turner, Circuit Clerk of Quitman County in 1927

Can anyone identify further the J. P. Turner who was Circuit Clerk of Quitman County in 1927? His name appears on a number of documents I recently received from Marks, but always with the initials, not the full name.

The only man I find in the 1920 census with the right initials is

1920 United States Federal Census, Marks, Quitman County, Mississippi
John P Turner, 33, commercial salesman
Lelia Turner, 33
John M Turner, 4 11/12

You expect county officers to be from established local families, but I can’t find that family in the census for 1930.

I know there was no J. P. Turner in my own Turner family (despite this man’s wife’s having the unusual name Lelia, the same as my grandmother’s).

Does anyone know whether John P. Turner was the clerk and what became of the family?
