Janis,

For some reason I missed this thread. I can't argue with Carl. He is right in what he said, but you are wrong on some of your information. Let me see if I might clear it up some more. For some reason I thought I talked to you about this. Anyway, a lot of water has gone under the bridge since 2004. Maybe I talked to you after this. Well here goes in your order. Call me if you want or email me. I will copy and paste this and send it to you also.

1) Nellie Fae (Smith) Coe Chapman was my grandmother b. 9/5/1883 d. 5/8/1959 and is buried in the Lambert Cemetery, Quitman County, Lambert, MS. I furnished Carl with a younger picture which he posted at Find A Grave along with the picture I scanned of her and Mr. Chapman's marker. Ralph Elliott Chapman b. 7/6/1891 d. 7/5/1963 is buried next to her. See the marker. I never could get it out of my Mother if they named me after him. One would think so. For this posting I am sticking with her side of the family here on out. Her Mother, my greatgrandmother, Mattie Eddy Coe Partee d. 6/25/1917 is buried in St. Louis in the Bellfountaine Cemetery with the other Eddy's. Her grave is unmarked from what I can find out. Her father, my GGrandfather on that side, (owner of the Eddy plot) is marked I have a picture of his marker and I might have a picture of his wife's marker also. Can't remember right now. Will have to dig through some stuff. I think I have a copy of my Grandmother's and GGrandmother's death cert's (pretty sure). I'm not nearly as organized as Carl.
2) Celeste was never adopted (I do not know why). Mrs. Chapman, my grandmother, got her in Memphis at one of those noterious places where unwed mothers used to end up (my understanding). This information I got from my mother. As the story goes, as I was told, Mrs. Chapman just showed up one day with a baby girl she got in Memphis out of nowhere. She NEVER had the Coe or Chapman (legally) last name and for the life of me I never did know her real last name and maybe Mrs. Chapman did not know either. She might have "taken/used" Chapman. I do not know and never have asked. This was during the 1930's, I think. She married a Dean White and they lived in Elgin, IL. for sometime and they moved to Memphis in the late '60's. I think Dean has passed and she is living with her son in AZ. the last I heard. The last time I talked to her was at my Mother's funeral. She is a very nice person. <continued>
