Mrs. Vera Benson Thaxton, a former resident of the Clay Community, passed away May 31, 1971. She will be remembered as Vera Benson, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jeard Benson and a granddaughter of the late Bro. Frank Benson who was pastor of New Home Baptist Church for a number of years prior to his death. Mr. and Mrs. Thaxton made their home in Starkville for 40 years. They were the parents of four children, Mrs. P. D. Lee, Mrs. L. H. Agard and Mrs. Noah Lindsey, all of Starkville, and a son, Mr. James Paul Thaxton who died several years ago. Mrs. Thaxton is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Velma Benson Smith and Mrs. Camelle Benson Umfress, both of Starkville and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in the First Baptist Church with burial in the cemetery of Starkville. She was 74.
