LIndsey/Hughes connection, Itawamba/Monroe Co MS

My gg grandmother, Mary Jane Lindsey b.1839 AL, dtr of Hilliard Lindsey b.1809 NC. She had 2 sons out of wedlock - James J Lindsey 1869 and Thomas William Lindsey 1872, probably in Marion or Franklin Co AL or Monroe or Itawamba Co MS. I cannot find her in the 1870 census, altho she is in Marion AL in 1880. I am trying to discover who was the father(s) of her sons. I have a close Ydna connection with the Hughes name, 1 genetic distance w/67 markers. The name of the Y match was Donald Roy Hughes whom I cannot reach. An online search yielded 2 persons of that name - 1 in Piedmont, Calhoun Co AL who passed 12/13 and 1 in Elwood IN who passed 1/14. If anyone has any pertinent information, I would very much appreciate hearing from you.
