Services for Sam Edwards, who farmed in the Smithville area many years were held March 20, 1964 in Pearce Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with burial in the Maxey Cemetery with Pickle Funeral Home in charge. He was 68. Mr. Edwards died March 17 at a hospital in Houston, Texas, where he had resided since retiring in 1957. He had been ill for several weeks.
Survivors included his wife, Mrs. Ila Wright Edwards, to whom he was married in 1913; three sons, W. C. and L. C. Edwards of Houston, Texas, and Lewis Edwards of Waukegan, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Gladys Stricker of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Joy Cowley and Mrs. Sandra Brown of Smithville; four sisters, Mrs. Dee Cole of Belzoni, Mrs. Ollie Vandiver and Mrs. Jet West of Smithville, and Mrs. Dess Towery of Georgia; one brother, Noah Edwards of Amory; 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
