Gilbert Johnson, 46-year-old farmer of Pearce Chapel, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Feb. 27, 1964, a coroner's jury ruled. Mr. Johnson was alone at his home. One of his sons found him on the floor of a bedroom and a 20-gauge shotgun nearby. He left no note. Relatives said he had been ill for some time. He was a lifelong resident of Pearce Chapel.
Survivors included his wife, Mrs. Sue Johnson; three sons, William ... a daughter, Mrs. Herman Thornton of Amory; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Stevens of Smithville and Mrs. Arlene Stewart of Seattle; a brother, the Rev. David Johnson of Steens; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Johnson of Pearce Chapel.
