Aberdeen - Willie Arthur Harper, 75, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born Sept. 2, 1936, in Bigbee to Jeary Lee Harper and Betty Mae Walls. He was a lifelong resident of Nettleton. He was employed as a construction superintendent with Hays Construction Co., where he worked for more than 40 years, retiring earlier this year. He accepted Christ at an early age at East Springhill M.B. Church.
Services were at Greater New Prospect M.B. Church at Nettleton. Burial was in Mullen Cemetery in Nettleton.
Survivors included his daughter, Janice Walton Wright of Amory; one brother, Leo Harper of Nettleton; three sisters, Alice Marion and Glenda Denman (Michael) of Nettleton and Geraldine Ponder of Chicago; three grandchildren, Pvt. Debra Walton, Mary Orr and Kevin Childs, and one stepgranddaughter, Latoya Griffin; four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special friend, Shirley Marshall of Nettleton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joann; a stepdaughter, Marilyn Griffin; and a stepgranddaughter, Shontina Hinton.
