Celia Fay Dabbs Jackson, 92, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, as a result of the tornado in Smithville. She was born on Aug. 11, 1918, in Hatley, to Lemuel and Mary Fuqua Dabbs.
At age 15, she married Vardie Jackson on Feb. 3, 1934. They were married for 54 years until he passed away in 1988. She was a resident of Smithville since 1934. Her greatest joy in life was working in her flowers. She also found pleasure in spending time with her dogs and cats; as well as, growing vegetables in her garden. She was an extremely hard-working woman throughout her entire life. She worked at garment plants in Amory and Smithville along with farming for many years.
A celebration of life service was held at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with burial in Haughton Memorial Garden.
Survivors included two daughters, Helen Patterson (Joe) of Canton, Ga. and Linda Cox (Doug-deceased) of Northport, Ala.; six grandchildren, Barry Smith (Jill), Cindy Shafer (David), Deanna Smith (Orvis), Doug Cox, Robin Silva (John) and Daniel Cox; and 10 great-grandchildren, Davey, Carly, Leah, Dillon, Alyssa, Ansley, Avery, Beau, Forest and Taylor.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vardie Jackson; five sisters, Minnie Lee Jones, Winona Hill, Emma Palmer, Annabell Evans, Loucille Welch and twin sister, Julia Ray Bowen; and four brothers, Austin Dabbs, Houston Dabbs, Burley Dabbs and Moses Dabbs.
