What a confusion of Johnson Bickerstaffs in Monroe County this is turning out to be.

Only two Bickerstaff families in Monroe in the 1850 census, both with seven children.
In the Eastern div census is Johnson Bickerstaff, postmaster, born Tn, 1800.

Western division is Johnson Bickerstaff, born Georgia 1807, married to Harriett, seven children. This Johnson has son named Johnson, born 1835 Ms.

1840 Monroe census has four Bickerstaff heads if household, three being Johnson Bickerstaff, and one being William S.
Bickerstaff. William S. and spouse are shown to be in ages 20-30, with a male child between ages 10-15, a female child between ages 5-10.

My files show a Melon A. Bickerstaff, born Alabama, who passed through Monroe County, Ms. bwtween the 1840-50 cenusues, with three sons, one named Mitchell who was born Monroe County February 15, 1843, and two more sons John Lucky and Samuel, both born in Missippi. They appeared to move around Mississippi for a while, then spread out to Tennessee, Texas, and Arkansas.

I'm still trying to sort it all out, and when (if) I do, I'll contact you by e-mail.
Are you losing any female Bickerstaff descendants? I have several hundred going back for about two hundred years, females whose descendants have lost track of.

Tom Clarke
