1881 is the date in the Tubb's book. I don't know if Jerri Harlow (who is on the Monroe county site often) has access to the book by Dr Evans who did a cemetery book of Monroe County cemeteries in 1954. Possibly he would be listed in that book and you could see if the dates match. I can't think of how to check other than that. Also have you found him listed in the 1880 census? That might give a clue if the date is in the 70's or 80's.
