Many of my ancestors lived in Ecru and are buried in the area. My grandparents, great grandparents and great-great grandparents are buried in the Ecru Cemetery which is maintained by the Town of Ecru. My great-great-great grandparents and my great-great-great-great grandfather are buried in the cemetery adjacent to Shady Grove Baptist Church which is approximately five miles west of Ecru and a very old Baptist Church in the area. My g-g-g-g-father, Rev. Elijah Browning was minister of this church and is buried there. He was listed as Clergyman-Baptist in the 1850 Pontotoc County census which is available on the Pontotoc County Genealogy Web Site. If you have trouble locating, please advise. I went to Ecru today to both cemeteries before I saw your post and located all graves of the above. It has been several years since I viewed them. For information on the Ecru Cemetery, I suggest you contact Sam Newsom, who is either the mayor or former mayor of Ecru and before that tended to all maintenance of city utilities. He is very much acquainted with all the old families in the area. Hope this helps.
