Update concerning the George Washington and John C. Halford families...

John C. Halford b. 1787 NC s/o John was the father-in-law of George Washington b. 1821 d. 1869 bur. Sarepta, Calhoun, MS who married his presumed daughter Jincy Halford.

Children of this marriage were:
John C. Washington b. 30 Dec 1940 AL d. 14 Feb. 1917 Pontotoc, MS, served 31st MS Inf. Co. D "The Dixie Rebels";
Francis Marion abt. 1839 d. in-camp Corinth, MS, Served 18th AL Inf. Co. I and Battle of Shiloh;
Catherine bef. Jan. 1845 d. bef. Jan. 1845.

The death certificate of their son John C. Washington from the Mississippi archives states that his mother was Jincy Halford.

Jincy died before Jan. 1845 because George Washington re-marries Jan. 1845 to Mary Ann McEwen (spelled McCuin) in Muscokee Co., GA, she was daughter of Kirkham McEwen and Mary Ann Canada, formerly of Gwinnett Co., GA.

About John C. Halford: served Barnwell Chancery court before moving to MS. Served as Justice of the Peace in Simpson Co., MS, approx. 1820-1826, married Catherine Brown b. 1795 SC d. Sarepta, Calhoun, MS, burial Methodist Campground [Ragland] cemetery, Calhoun Co., MS, daughter of James Brown b. SC d. 1820 Warren Co., MS. John and wife Catherine then move to Russel/Lee Co. Alabama where found in 1840 census living next door to George Washington.

John C. Halford and George Washington took a land purchase trip to MS in 1841 where they each purchased land in Kemper and Jasper Cos. MS.

Jincy Halford dies with baby Catherine before Jan. 1845. I do not know where she is buried; either around Girard, Russell Co., AL, or in Kemper/Jasper Cos., MS.

John C. Halford and George Washington were then found in the 1850 Wetumpka, Coosa, AL census as in my previous post. George with new wife Mary McEwen and John C Halford and wife Catherine.

They all then move to MS. John C Halford is found in the 1860 Sarepta, Calhoun, MS census along with grandson John C Washington and his new bride Margaret Lewellen. George Washington and Mary Ann McEwen are also found in the area of Calhoun and Pontotoc Cos. MS.

John C. Halford is a descendant of Anne Dandridge, sister of Martha Dandridge Custis Washington.
