Thanks so much Thomas. Had to take a bit to look him up on Ancestry.com. Ancestry picked up the Jno T. Kindrick. The JOhn Tate lived next h.h.
Both about same age.
You sent me a lot of good information about the censuses. It helps alot.
My great grandmother Margaret J. was known as Margaret J. wife of William H. Woolcott (William H. Woolcut).
Census of 1860 Pope co. Arkansas lists her with her son Jerry A. and husband William H. but then there were no children after that for years.
My Mom was firmly convinced that her grandmother Margaret was a Kindrick or Kendrick but none of my matches on Family Finder show a Kendrick or Kindrick. Some names show a HURST and William H. Woolcott's sister married a Kendrick man who had two children, William Newt and Esther Kindrick. Esther or Hester married a Hurst and lived in JOhnson co. Arkansas according to family.(Williamson and SIms are also surnames in my FF and those are families who lived around Margaret in the neighborhood)
There is not much to prove Margaret J.'s heritage but she always listed her birth year as 1840 MS. (except the year when think she was gone and her son could have told the census taker his parent's birthyears. The years were reversed)
William H. Woolcott was born in 1838 Arkansas to Winnifred E. Parker and Jeremiah M. Wilcot.
Jeremiah was born 1811 in Adair? co. KY. and Winnie was born in 1816 S.C.
Winnie married again to Jesse Daniel W. Vail after Jeremiah died ca. 1858. I think Jesse was living in MS. with his wife and then he shows up married to Winnie in Pope co Ar. marriage records. They did not stay married long after 1860 census.
I have often wondered if William H. Woolcott met Margaret J. and her family in MS. and Jesse Vail came to Ar with them all.
I have not been able to find Margaret J's marriage to William H. Woolcott in MS or Arkansas.
A JOhn Kendrick born 1818 is in Ar in 1860. This would have been close to the age of the John T. Kindrick in Chickasaw co. MS. The Pope co. Kindricks were also from Lawrence co. TN. ca.1810.
A John T. Kendrick received land in Calhoun co. Ar in 1856 but cannot track him any further.
Thank you so much. Margaret Jane has been a mystery to the whole family all my life and that was one of the main reasons my second cousin and I took the Family Finder test. (Cousin Wanda was descended from my grandfather's brother)
