It's possible Lydia died of blood poisoning, but more likely the cause of death of many women back then - childbirth. Probably the younger children were with relatives in 1870. I see that a John Colvin and a Thomas Colvin were apparently hired hands in other households in Union Co. in 1880.
The only thing I can suggest is that you contact a library in Jack Co., TX and see if they have one of those county history books with biographies of resident families. If there is a bio for one of the children, perhaps it may mention the mother.
