Michael Vogt and Ursula Stohler of Ziefen, Switzerland, 1700's Connection t o MS

I am completing the research begun in 1962 by my great uncle, Ottis Albritton and his friend Paul Crawford, both of McComb, Pike County, Mississippi. They hired a professional researcher in Switzerland, Dr. Debrunner, who searched the State Archives in Liestal, Switzerland to find the ancestors of Michael Vogt and his wife, Ursula Stohler, who both immigrated to the United States with their daughter, Katharina Vogt, in 1768. They made their home in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Katharina Vogt, {also spelled Voight, in the Family Bible of John Taylor of Richland, South Carolina), married Jacob Turnipseed. His Swiss surname was Rebsamen. He was the son of Beat Rebsamen aka Turnipseed.

My branch of this wonderful tree continues from the daughter of Jacob Turnipseed and Katharina Vogt. Her name was Mary Magdaline Turnipseed, and she married John Brent in South Carolina. They moved to the Mississippi Territory, into what is now Lawrence County, Mississippi. John Brent fought in the War of 1812 with the 13 REG'T (NIXON'S) MISSISSIPPI MILITIA. They raised their family in what is now Pike County, Mississippi.

Anyone interested in contributing to the work, is welcome so long as they can add source documents to their contributions. They will be quoted, and acknowledged as the contributor in the works published.

I have hard copy documentation from Switzerland that was available in the State Archives in 1962. Translating it from Swiss German to English has been educational.

I look forward to hearing from anyone who is interested in these lines. I want to complete the work this year, so if you want your family line to be included, please contact me with the information and source documentation. It is not my goal to track down every descendant by myself. It is most important to get the information on the ancestors properly published.
