Thomas James McNutt 1853-1892

Thomas J McNutt was born in Itawamba Co., MS in 1853. He married Mary Elizabeth Stephens January 13, 1874 and they were the parents of 4 children one being my grandmother Albertine McNutt. Mary E died February 22, 1881,in Itawamba County. Thomas then married Laura A Langston in 1883 in Itawamba County. I believe they also had 4 children. Sometime late 1880's or 1890 they moved to Pecan Gap, Delta Co., TX. Thomas and Laura both died in 1892.

I have a copy of a legal document where Thomas gave a friend W.F.(Bill)Ross temporary guardianship of the younger children while he was gone on a trip to what is called South Texas. Living in Texas myself I know South Texas is a large area so I have to wonder if he truly went to South Texas or maybe just south of where he lived. The story is that he died while he was gone; however another document states that he died in Pecan Gap, Delta Co., TX.

I know the younger children returned to Mississippi after the death of their father. In the 1900 census of Lee Co., MS the younger McNutt children are living in the household of George Langston who I assume is a brother or other relative to their mother Laura.

My goal is to find out what happened to Thomas J McNutt. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
