QUERY: John HAYNES of Bedford County ca 1740 - ca 1830
Seeking the birth and death dates (and location) for John Haynes, son of Henry HAYNES (ca 1745-1816), and grandson of WILLIAM HAYNES (1710-1780). John's family possibly left Bedford County ca 1823 or later, going thru TN to MS then on to TX.
John married Elizabeth SCOTT on Sept 25, 1804, and they had nine children: Elizabeth 1805-??; William Scott 1807-?; Henry 1809-1880; Mary Turner 1811-??, Malcolm Decater, 1813-1863; Harriet Amanda 1816-??; Susan Marion 1818-1887; John L Haynes 1821-1888; and James Marion 1824-1886.
Sometime between 1824 and 1840 the family left VA, spent some time in TN (?), then some moved on to MS and one moved on to TX. I know nothing about the TN stay.
All nine children, including the youngest, James Marion HAYNES, born February 10, 1824 are listed in the family bible of David Street, a brother-in-law of John Haynes, and resident of Bedford County. (David Street married Mary SCOTT, the sister of Elizabeth SCOTT.) Unless they stayed in communication or moved together, the Streets would not have known about James if the HAYNES family had already left VA before 1824.
At least four of the children were in Mississippi by 1845, some to stay:
· Malcolm bought land in MS in 1839.
· Malcolm, John L. and James M. HAYNES are listed on the tax rolls for 1845.
· M. D. and J. M. HAYNES witnessed a will in 1866.
· Harriet A. HAYNES married Young G. HOUSTON in MS in 1833, and is buried there.
Elizabeth (SCOTT) HAYNES did spend some time in TN, (ca 1840-ca 1850?) while her son John L. was in MS. ("I…did not get well until my mother came down to MS from TN and regulated my eating." Letter from her son John L Haynes to his son Henry Malcolm HAYNES dated July 1879.)Elizabeth died in 1864, and is buried in MS.
When did the family leave Bedford County? What happened to John Sr.?
