Thanks, Deb.
I have the census record that shows my Samuel R. was born in Tennessee, but have not been able to link him to William Mc Kendrie and his father James.According to Joyce Hornbeck who is a direct decendent of James my family is not related.I fear I am at a road block just as I was back in the 90's when I stopped looking. Now being retired I have more time, but still getting nowhere.I have found reference to my Gwin family leaving Snelling and/or Merced, CA and going to South Dakota in 1872 then selling their stake in the Homestake Mine and moving to South Central Idaho (Albion) and buying ranches, cattle and horses. My G Grandfather, William Lafayette Gwin is buried in Shoshone, ID along with two of his sons and one daughter next to his wife (Marion Durfee). Thanks to the Mormon Church and the Gwin Family Bible I have details from Samuel down, but nothing on his siblings (if any) or his parents, grand parents, etc.In 1939 my great uncle Walt told my grandmother to "look to Mississippi" and "Robert is my forbearer".I also found reference that S.R. came by the "southern route" (Chisholm trail?) in 1849 and he operated a freight business in Calfornia before moving to SD.His daughter (Mary aka Fredonia Zillar) married a Marsh and is apparently buried in CA (Merced?).Again, thanks for your research.Billy Gwin
