Thomas Carlisle of Lawrence Co Ms Descendants
Attention Carlisle Researchers (especially the Carlisles of Lawrence Co., MS):
Thomas Carlisle (b. abt. 1775) is listed in theLawrence Co., MS Census Records in 1830 and 1840. We know Thomas B. died 9 Mar1849, his will probated 23 April 1849, in Lawrence Co, Mississippi. We do not know the name of Thomas' wife. We know by the will of Thomas B. Carlisle that he had the following children:James Carlisle,John B. Carlisle, Elizabeth Ann Carlisle Hargroves,Susan Carlisle Douglass,Frances Carlisle Grant,Nancy Carlisle Bennettand Mary Ann Emily Carlisle Saunders. We believe the children were born between 1790 and abt. 1810.James and John B. were born in GA or SC, the rest in GA or MS.We believe there also may have been a son Benjamin who died young in Lawrence Co., MS.
We know by court guardianship records (1844/45, Lawrence Co., MS)that Thomas B.'s son James Carlisle and his wife Mary E. Bishop had the following children:William W. Carlisle,Edmond/Edmund J. Carlisle,Matthew H Carlisle,Susan P. Carlisle,Sarah A. Carlisle,James Jefferson Carlisle,Elizabeth Ann (Betsy) Carlisle,George Thomas Carlisle,Newton Carlisle and Mary Ann Carlisle.
We know by probate records (1847, Lawrence Co., MS) that William W. Carlisle (son of James and Mary)probably never married as his estate went to his siblings, Edmond J, Matthew, Susan, Sarah, James Jefferson, Elizabeth Ann (Betsy), George Thomas, Newton and Mary Ann.
We know by census records from 1820, 1830, 1840 and 1850 that John B. Carlisle and wife Elizabeth Saunders had fifteen (15) children. Some of the younger children were named in the 1850 census, others names we have gotten through other sources. Some are speculative and we have no proof. The 15 children who we believe to be the children of John B. and Elizabeth Saunders Carlisle are:
Thomas M. Carlisle (b. abt. 1815, m. 1835, Lawrence Co.,MS, Syntha Ann Pierce),
William Carlisle (b. abt. 1817, m. 1839, Lawrence Co., MS, Sarah Bishop),
A girl child, name unknown, (b. abt. 1819),
Asa Monroe Carlisle (b. abt. 1821, m. 1840, Lawrence Co., MS, Jincy Davis),
Allen R. Carlisle (b. abt. 1822, m. 1846, Lawrence Co., MS, Frances A. Elliott),
Elizabeth/Sulie Ann/ Caroline Carlisle (b. abt. 1823, m. abt. 1848, Barnett Lovell),

Perry Carlisle (b. 1836, m. Lucinda Martin),
A girl child, name unknown (b. abt. 1838),
Stephen Carlisle (b. 1840)
Priscilla Jane Carlisle (b. abt. 1843).
We know this about these three Carlisle brothers, William, James M. and John A.:They left Lawrence Co. MS sometime after 1845 and were in Union Co. AR and in Claiborne Parish, LA by 1850. We have court records from Claiborne Parish, LA, that prove these three men are brothers.James and his wife Huldah died before 1860 in Claiborne Parish.By 1870 William and Sarah Carlisle moved to Angelina Co., TX with their children and the four children of James and Huldah. In 1870, John A. and Narcissa Carlisle and family were in Rapides Parish, LA.In 1880, they were in Grant Parish, LA.We believe these three are the sons of John B. Carlisle and Elizabeth Saunders.
We, my cousin Rebecca and I, are putting this info out there (some fact, some speculative) in the hopes that some Carlisle researcher can dispute, verify, or hopefully add to the above information. We are especially wanting to find anyone with information on John B. Carlisle, his family, his descendants, who will be willing to share their information with us.We will be happy to share the info we have also.If anyone has information that can help us prove the children of John B. and Elizabeth Carlisle, especially William, James M and John A., we would so appreciate hearing from you.Or, if you have proof that any of the 15 children named above are not their children, we would appreciate knowing that too.
Thanks, Clata McCarver & Rebecca Lunceford
