My great grandparents, Samuel M. Cocke and Dorcus E. Festerman lived in DeSoto Co, Marshall Co, and Tate Co, MS...Living at last Independance or Senatobia, MS...Dorcus (Festerman)Cocke died before the census was taken in 1880, I believe January of 1880...by June of 1880 Samuel Cocke is m. to a young widow, Jennie (Mothershed) Wicks, who had four young children...the youngest was married at her mother's and stepfather's home. There was a write up in the local paper. Samuel died in 1896 or 1898 (have seen both dates). Would someone be so kind to look-up these two old obituaries for me? I'm sure there was a write up, since they lived in the area for approx, over thirty years...
Samuel raised four boys: oldest, Henry Harris Cocke m. Mary Langston, second, James Alexander Cocke, m. first, Lizzie (Patman), second, Emma (Mothershed), third, Martha Jefferson (Goode)Ballard, third, Samuel A. Cocke, m. Katie Burch, & fourth, Leo Cocke, who died before his 20th birthday! Anyone with any information on this family, please contact me at... dc_sam@comcast.net
