Dear Linda Chamness: Earnest Clayton was my grandfather and appears on the 1930 Indianola, Sunflower County, MS Census with Bessie, Velma, age 12, Odell, age 10, Eula, age 8 and Eunice Hall?, age 3. The children are all listed as Stepdaughters. Earnest Clayton died December 3, 1946 and is buried in some cemetery in Indianola, according to his Death Certificate. Ben and Bessie appear on the 1920 Indianola, Sunflower County, MS Census with Lillia Jircy?, age 4, Orie?, age 4, Velma, age 2 and Odell, age 1 month. This Census is very hard to read and the name spellings may be wrong. It appears that Lillia and Orie may have been twin sisters. I do have some additional personal family lore passed down orally by my father and his brother. I cannot confirm the accuracy of the stories, nor do they shed light on your search for your grandmother's ancestors, however, I would be glad to share them, but not in a public forum. I will be 70 years old in October 2008. I was born in Washington County, MS, raised there until 13, migrated to St. Louis, MO, joined the USAF at age 17, and retired after 27 years, and now reside in Summerfield, IL 62289 with my wife of 49 years. Our only son, Tim, lives next door. Use my Email address if you are interested in the stories and I will correspond further with you. Sincerely, Elbert Clayton Notify Administrator about this message?
