Whose Charlie Powers' father--Mississippi, Civil War
I am searching for my gggrandfather Powers. His sons were Charlie, John, and William/Willie with Charlie (born Dec.1850) being my ggrandfather.Charlie's father supposedly married a Grayson woman--her brother was Zoom Grayson, a member of the 14th Battalion, Miss.Lt.Artillery during the Civil War, and later a sheriff in Texas where he was killed in an ambush.Charlie's father might have been in the same Miss.light artillery battalion and is said he died of measles/pneumonia during the war."Widow" (Grayson) Powers married a Dickerson, moved to the Blaine, Miss. area where a son was born.In 1882 Charlie married Sallie Parkinson, they had 8 children, and lived in/around the Durant/Kosciusko, Mississippi area until moving to Denver, Colorado in 1901.Charlie died in 1905, was shipped back to the Saron Cemetery near Durant, Miss. with the help of the Odd Fellows, and was buried next to his eldest daughter (Cora) who had died in 1899--both are buried in unmarked graves. One long deceased source wrote that Charlie was 1st cousin to the politician (John) Caleb Powers from Kentucky which would make Charlie's father and Caleb's father brothers.
If anyone has any information on Charlie's father (maybe Halloway or Holiday Powers) Grayson/Dickerson Parkinson/Caleb Powers, it would be much appreciated.I also include my email addresses if any correspondence would be desired:[email protected] and [email protected] you.
