Carmela thanks for your recent posting. In 1880 at census time the two sons of John W Cooper Jr and P.C. Shinn were approx. 6 and 4. Both boys names are misspelled on the census. According to the 1880 census Puss was 5 months old, which would put her being born Jan 1880, and living in Prentiss County Mississippi with William Gentry and his wife Mary Ann (nee Thomas). Puss' grandmother Jane Louisa Thomas Cooper had a sister named Mary, which would make her Puss' aunt. So the aunt Mary would not necessarily be from P.C.'s side of the family. At this point I can't see that the Amanda McEleyea and John Cooper are in the lineage I'm looking for. But will still followup on this to be sure. Furthermore, I believe that my cousin's grandmother (Puss) was so young when the family moved to Texas that she grew up thinking she was born in Texas. I think that John Jr moved the family to Texas in the early 1880's along with his grandparents Miles Thomas and Margaret (nee Cowan) and perhaps the Gentrys too. I do know that Margaret Thomas, wife of Miles, died in Wise County Texas 8-31-1884 and Miles died in 1889. Of course the Cooper family moving to Texas in the early 1880's is supposition on my part and will require a lot more research to see if any of it bears out. As always I welcome any input with suggestions and/or ideas. Notify Administrator about this message?
