For many years, G Brown Goode's book, Virginia Cousins, was the answer to every Goode prayer. But now we are finding that lots of it is in error. What we now understand is that there are TWO Goode lines from the early Virginia. Edward and John came about the same time, but they are not known to be related, and the DNA is different. We have Samuel1's Will. In it are listed, in order presumably of birth (boys first): my son Mackerness, my son Samuel, my son William, my son Philip, my son John, my daughter Frances, my two minor daughters, Martha and Margaret. That's it, there aren't any more.
I too have seen Samuel as Samuel Edward, but only on the net, no evidence.
And I wish that someone could REALLY connect me to Samuel or someone, because I can trace MY Thomas to NO ONE for positive. I have people tell me he belongs to William above, but William only has records of son Mackarness.. Yuck.
Anyway, keep trying. Try the Four-Mile Goodes, there's nothing wrong with descending from them.Dig on the Goode Forum, it really has LOTS of good/Goode information.
And it is the pits, but for some unknown reason, the Four-Mile Goodes also use the same names, including Mackarness, which is why, G Brown Goode, placed him in Samuel and Martha's family. But I understand the DNA is definitely different.
