Tommy Ray Lyles, 59, died June 28, 2009, at his home after a long illness. He was born March 6, 1950, in Tupelo to Zelma and Bonnie Lyles. He was called to serve in the U.S. military in 1968 after graduating from Mooreville High School. He attained the rank of sergeant and earned many medals including Purple Hearts and Bronze Stars. After his military duty, he worked as a truck driver, restaurant manager and painter, his favorite job. When not working, he enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, gambling in Tunica, watching his westerns, listening to his oldies, and enjoying his pets, Suzy, Ody and Doc.
A memorial service was held at Lee Acres Church of Christ in Tupelo.
Survivors included his wife, Christine Lyles of the Auburn community; his son, Tim Lyles (Melanie) of Guntown; his daughters, Valinda Franks (Randy) of Saltillo, Christie Lyles of Auburn and Jennifer Dray (Matt) of Coldwater; his nine grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth, J.D. and John; and one sister, Betty.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Zelma, and his father, Bonnie.
