Midway cemetery is about a mile north of Hwy 6 and about half way between Oxford and the Lafayette/Pontotoc County line. I have been told it is a high point, very nicely maintained, and that the old movie "Intruder in the Dust" had scenes filmed there. Also heard it was either Methodist or Presbyterian Church there then.

If you paste this link into your browser it should take you to a map showing the location.

Verney Cain's father was William Hardin Cain who was born about 1800 in Tn and died 1875 or 1876 in Lafayette Co, burial place unknown. He came to Harmontown and Lafayette Co about 1836 from McNairy Co, Tn where he is listed on the 1830 census. Verney's mother is unknown but thought to be the mother of William Hardin's first 7 children. He was married to Annette Caroline Griffin second, probably in Tn. She was born 1823 in Tn and died about 1894 in Lafayette Co, burial place unknown. She gave him another 5 children.
