Amory – John Richard Barrett, 69, died Nov. 1, 2009, at his residence. He was born July 4, 1940, in Itawamba County to Robert and Jesca Lee Johnson Barrett. He lived in the Peaceful Valley community and in Amory for many years. Before his retirement, he worked as a mechanic for 30 years. He married Violet Cantrell in 1979. He was Baptist and he enjoyed fishing.
Services were Nov. 3 at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with burial in the Turon Cemetery.
Survivors included his wife, Violet L. Barrett of Amory; two sons, Stanley Gene Barrett (Shirley) of Gattman; a stepson, Tommy Hugya of Amory; a stepdaughter, Sharon Hugya Pope of Lewisville, Texas; three sisters, Nola Mae Barrett Wall of Smithville, Ola Faye Barrett Irvin of Amory, and Dorothy Sue Barrett Smith (Buddy) of Amory; one grandson, Christopher Ian Barrett; and six stepgrandchildren, Stephanie Hugya, Jennifer Hugya, Joey Pope, Timmy Pope, Tyler Pope and Ashleigh Pope.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Eddie Wayne and Ricky Lynn Barrett; and his parents.
