Amory – Mary Nell Clayton Giles, 85, died Oct. 27, 2009, at her residence. She was born May 22, 1924, in Tilden to the Ezell Clyde and Rena Nell Wallace Clayton. Supporting the war effort for World War II, she worked at Reynolds Aluminum in Florence and served in the USO. She left that job to marry John Perry “Jack” Dabney and helped to run Dabney Wholesale Grocery. After Jack’s death she met, dated and married Frank Giles, at which time she moved to Amory and had her son, Dave. Following Mary Nell’s divorce from Frank, she raised Dave while working as a bookkeeper at a local car dealership. When Dave went to college, Mary Nell spent her time caring for elderly people, and she was exceptionally proud that she was able to have a positive impact on these people and their families. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was also a member of the Triple L Club and the Lydia Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Domino Club, Aurora Club and Gilmore Fitness Center.

Services were Oct. 31 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with burial in Masonic Cemetery.

Survivors included her son, Dave Franklin Giles (Kimberly) of Glen Mills, Penn.; her sister, Diane Roberts of Fulton; two grandsons, Cooper Sullivan and Everett Clayton Giles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; her second husband; stepmother, Cora Lee Roberts Clayton; brothers, Rogers Earl Clayton and Ezell Clyde Clayton Jr; stepbrother, William Thomas Bullard; sister, Peggy Roberts Clayton Turner.
