Fulton – Daisy Loden Howell, Ph.D., 84, died Oct. 18, 2009, in the Greenwood community at the home of her niece, Stella Loden Renick. She was born June 6, 1925, in Itawamba County to James Thomas and Daisy Riley Loden. She was a graduate of Blue Mountain College and received both master and doctorate degrees from the University of Mississippi. She was a retired educator with more than 40 years of service. She taught in several Delta area schools and was a member of the Math Department at Delta State University. Upon retirement, she was Dean of Continuing Education at Delta State. She had resided at Avonlea Assisted Living in Tupelo until recently. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Cleveland and had served on the Board of Trustees at Blue Mountain College. She enjoyed growing flowers and herbs. She was an avid reader and worked crossword puzzles every day. She was a dog lover and had several beloved pets over the years, most recently Toby and Sugar.
Services were Oct. 20 at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with burial in the Keys Cemetery.
Survivors included her nieces, Stella Loden Renick (David), Evelyn Loden Terry, Mary Helen Loden White (Travis), Melba Loden Tatum (Thomas), Mondell Loden Johnson (Lester), Mary Belle Howell Tonos (Joe), Florence Howell Crow (Kenneth) and Eunice Ann Howell Fowler ( Joe); and one nephew, Thomas Howell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tully Howell; her parents; four brothers, Ellis, Edgar, Cullen and E.O. “Dick” Loden; one nephew, Tommy Loden; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
