Flint, Mich. – Farris E. Cummings, 90, died Oct. 8, 2009, in Flint, Mich. He was born May 22, 1919, in Itawamba County, where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946 and was honorably discharged. He began working for General Motors in 1956 and retired after 30 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and carpentry.
Services were Oct. 17 at Warren Chapel CME Church in Mantachie with burial in the church cemetery. Foster and Son Funeral Home of Ripley was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors included his wife of 30 years, Bertha; two sons, Rev. Roy Dallas (Beverly) Cummings and William E. (Monica) Cummings of Flint, Mich.; one stepdaughter, Ann Davis-Clement of Flint; three stepsons, David Prince, Allen Prince and William Prince, all of Flint; six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; the mother of his children, Jeffie Cummings; two sisters, Francis Marie Lyles of Chicago and Wilma (Rev. Jimmy) Ellis of Columbus; 10 nephews; and four nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rilla Ward Cummings; his stepmother, Easter Cummings; a son, Ross Douglas Cummings; a daughter, Gloria Cummings-Tolbert; and one sister and seven brothers.
