James E. "Jim" Alder died at his residence in Tupelo. A native of Toledo, Ohio, he was born May 19, 1926, to James and Anna Kehl Alder. He was a U.S. Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving with the 8th Air Force in the European Theater. He was a graduate of the University of Dayton in Ohio. He worked as a chemist and retired after 35 years from Abbott Laboratories as corporate director of compliance assurance in the Chicago area. After retirement, he moved with his family to Tupelo in 1990. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
Services weer July 9 at St. James Catholic Church with burial in Itawamba Memorial Gardens. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors included three sons, Mark Alder (Cecilia) of Hinsdale, Ill., Michael Alder (Cathy) of Tupelo and Jeff Alder (Sally) of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; three grandchildren, Matthew Alder of Hinsdale, and Bradley and Rachel Alder of Manhattan Beach; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Fannie Alder, on Sept. 1, 2007; and a brother, Robert Alder.
