Ada Bates- Orphan of Yellow Fever Epedemic?
Posted by: Rebekah Williams Cessna (ID *****8060) Date: February 11, 2005 at 07:55:22

The family story is that Ada Bates was born near Roaring Falls (July 16, 1869 in what is now Sharkey County) Her parents came down with the Yellow Fever as there was an epidemic going on. I don't know the year. She was sent to live with Samuel Weldon Johnston and his wife Mamie Pierce Johnston in Yazoo County to be safe. Apparently both parents died and she was raised by them. I don't know the relationship she had to these people. A clipping of the obituary for Mamie Johnston was found in her family Bible. She married Calvin "Jutson" Milner Feb 2, 1887 in Yazoo County. They had 4 maybe 5 children. Ada died Dec. 14, 1951. If anyone can shed any light on this, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Rebekah Williams Cessna
