Searching for the ancestors of Benjamin S. Thomas (b.1822 TN - d.1880), who is found in the Oktibbeha County, MS census reports between 1850 and 1880. He was married to Prudence Valentine, and had the folowing children:

Rufus B. b. approx. 1844 Private, Company I "Johnston's Company" - 6th MS Cavalry (with Paul Valentine, brother of Prudence) - POW 5/12/1865.
Rachel b. approx 1849 (married name Jones)
James b. approx. 1853
William b. approx 1855
Pleasant b. approx. 1857
Courtney b. approx. 1859
Joseph b. approx. 1862
Aaron b. approx. 1866

Descendents of this family are found in later years in Lowndes Co. and Clay Co. in MS, Tuscaloosa Co. and Jefferson Co. in AL, and in TX.

Other surnames associated with this group would be Aldridge, Hays or Hayes, Lee, Marshall, Perry and Valentine.
