Hi all, I'm looking for any information about William B. Turner who joined the service as a private in the Chickasahay Desperadoes, an infantry company raised in Clarke County in 1861. The company later switched to the artillery and Turner subsequently rose to the rank of captain in what became Smith-Turner's Battery, Mississippi Light Artillery during the Civil War.
I'm in Georgia. If someone would direct me to sources of information about Clarke County, MS and its families and / or genealogical sources for Turner and the period prior to the Civil War, I would be most appreciative.
Thanks,
Kay
