I am researching the above surnames in Clarke County, MS, mostly around DeSoto and Shubuta. Some in other towns nearby like Carmichael.
Asa/Arther Iley Jones, b 1849 NC, d 1903 DeSoto, MS
1st wife - Alice Ophelia (Smith?) b 1849 NC, d@1894, DeSoto
2nd wife - Esther Demaria/Demarius Smith (possible sister of Alice), d bet 1906-1914 in Laurel, Jones County.
(children of above spouses include Rilla m Moody, Marguerite m Holliman-moved to Iowa, Mattie m Spickard, Joe m Sudie Octavia Etheridge, Mary Edna m Simmons-moved to Texas, Alice Ophelia m Herrin-moved to Hattisburg, Nell Burtrez m Fred A. Westrip & Virgil Morrow-moved to Iowa and St. Petersburg, FL, Sarah Leona-died in FL, and Asa or Arthur Ola, Zulika).
Arthur/Asa Iley was a Missionary Baptist Preacher and worked between Shubuta and DeSoto. Trying to find out where in NC he came from. Supposedly came in an ox-drawn covered wagon - guessing in the 1880's to DeSoto and built a huge home/store there; not too far from the railroad tracks. The pecan orchard was once part of his estate.
